In May 2023, over 300 Dharug people gathered on Burubirangal ngurra (Country) in the Hawkesbury. Specifically, we gathered at Shaws Creek for a special language camp hosted by Bayala. The camp was a vibrant celebration of Dharug language and culture, where families and friends came together to learn and share.
Participants immersed themselves in communicative that involved directional language, learning songs and dances to perform in the Gurubii (Corroberee) at the end of each day. The language camp was designed to build on the participants knowledge from Bayala’s Dharug/Darug Dalang (Language) lessons. This unique learning experience incorporated cultural gestures, songs, and dances, creating a fun and interactive atmosphere for all ages.
